Robert Strong
Robert Strong is a multifaceted music professional whose career spans more than 20 years in the marching arts, music education, composition, adjudication, and instrument repair. Originally from Clovis, California, Robert relocated to Reno, Nevada, in 2018, where he continues to serve musicians and ensembles through creative design, musical instruction, and specialized technical craftsmanship.
Music Design & Composition
As a music designer, arranger, and published composer with GPG Music, Robert brings extensive experience and a collaborative approach to the marching arts. His work includes indoor percussion productions for ensembles ranging from Scholastic Regional A to Independent Open, as well as winds and percussion arrangements for high school and collegiate marching bands. He frequently partners with both GPG Music and AHDesigns to develop engaging musical productions that balance creative vision, musical sophistication, and the practical demands of performance.
With a background as a performer, educator, and adjudicator, Robert approaches each design with a comprehensive understanding of the marching arts. His work is informed by the needs of performers, the goals of educators, and the competitive environments in which today's ensembles perform.
Woodwind Instrument Repair
Alongside his work in music design and composition, Robert has developed a strong reputation for technical precision and individualized instrument care. In 2016, he began an apprenticeship under master technician Kristopher Aoki at Gottschalk Music Center, where he excelled in student and professional clarinet repair. His work developed a particular emphasis on customizing Yamaha instruments to meet the specific requirements and preferences of professional players.
Since moving to Reno in 2018, Robert has become a trusted woodwind technician within the local music community. He provides a broad range of services, from student instrument adjustments and playing-condition work to professional-level mechanical overhauls. His approach combines meticulous craftsmanship with an understanding of the musician behind the instrument, recognizing that reliable mechanics and thoughtful customization are essential to performance.
Education & Adjudication
Robert's experience as an educator spans concert and marching percussion ensembles, from the middle school level through independent ensembles. He has worked with programs in California's competitive music scene, helping performers develop their musical abilities and achieve their ensemble goals.
As a clinician and adjudicator, Robert has worked with programs throughout state and regional circuits across the Western United States. These experiences have given him a broad perspective on performance standards, instructional approaches, and the evolving demands of competitive music education.
Across his work as a designer, composer, educator, adjudicator, and technician, Robert combines creativity with technical expertise and a deep appreciation for the musicians he serves. Whether developing a production for the floor or refining an instrument for the stage, his goal remains the same: to provide thoughtful, high-quality work that helps musicians perform at their best.
